Today I bought a beautiful small plant, with purple flowers like bells and small leaves shaped rather like holly leaves.
The tag gives instructions as to light and all that, but doesn't give a name.
It says only that the plant is a perennial in my zone.

Just a guess, but it sounds like a type of Campanula.

The flowers are tubular, and the face is star shaped.
I should have said so.
Campanula? I'll Google it.
