Well, I've finally gotten around to photographing my rosebush! Actually, my sweetie was kind enough to do it with his new cellphone!

This is the same pathetic dead looking stick that I asked for help with when I first joined this forum in April: Rosebush post

So now it has flowers and leaves and I desperatly want to know what it is! I've named it Beulah, after my paternal Gramma, as she was kinda thorny and tough, but beautiful - and she grew roses.

Here are the pics:

 -

 -

They are small flowers and the petals are serrated, like a carnation. There is almost no scent at all. There are BAZZILIONS of thorns, even on the new growth. I don't know if you can really see it in the pic that has me in it, but I'm indicating how tall the plant was back in April when it looked like just a stick! It was just below waist height - now, it's as tall as me!

I love this forum!
Please help!

You may never know the name of your rose. I doubt it is of a miniature variety and would (if I had to) guess that it is likely an heirloom or antique rose. Antiques and heirlooms are usually a little more hardy, and disease resistant than the hybrids and crosses. Regardless of it's name...You have a beautiful rose bush and all roses take the same care. Thanks for the responses, tcmers and badplanter!

The roses themselves certainly are small! What's unusual (to me, anyway) it the serrated carnation-like petals. Very peculiar!

Hi thistledown..
From my 'The Rose Expert' book by Dr. D.G. Hessayon...i think your rose might b either F.J. Grootendorst/ Nelkenrose...a Rugosa shrub first introduced in 1918...or a Pink Grootendorst introduced in 1923...has more attractive colour... their flowers r small with no fragrance n da leaves r light green..do not produce hips but they r tough n hardy n tolerate poor condition..

Wonder if da description given fits your rose...??

Thanks, nmlAlba-dC15! I googled "Grootendorst/ Nelkenrose" and they look lovely! They seem too big to be my rose, though. They also do not seem to have jagged/serrated petals. The book sounds AMAZING! I'll have to put that on my wish list!
I only have one rose bush now, but I think I might be getting addicted!

I checked out "Seven Sisters", Dodge, and they also seem too big. These roses are about the size of a golfball (or a little smaller). Their form is very carefree and they don't have the characteristic "layer within layer" look I've always associated with roses. They almost look like the type of rose you would make out of crepe paper for a child's craft project. Shaggy and casual.
I know that's not a very good description, but I don't know the terminology!

Thank you all for looking! What a friendly forum!

And thank you! I think I'm going to try and find a site with some kind of glossary or lexicon of words so that I kind find the correct terminology. Perhaps that will improve my odds googling the description!
I will post if the mystery is solved!

ROFL!! That'll be the day! ~~bows and worships before gardening gurus~~

I'm just having a hard time finding anything on google because whenever I try and describe my rose I google stuff like "carnation rose" which gets me every bride's bouquet since 1956...or I try "rose petal serrated" and I get pictures of serrated rose LEAVES. I thought maybe there were official rose-people ways of saying "serrated", or "ragged" that would make my search bring up the right things. My picture wasn't super good, so I was hoping to find a snazzy professional pic I could link to for people.
~~sigh~~
I'm no good at this google stuff.

Thanks for ANY help you can provide! (and any "education"! LOL!)
