I bought some roma tomatoes from the local nursery. About 3 weeks after getting the little guys into the ground, I noticed that one plant had 2 stems coming from the ground. I just assumed that there were 2 Roma's coming up in the same place. Now I am noticing these non-roma tomatoes--and the plant is about 2 times higher than the romas. It is huge! The tomatoes are shaped like a strawberry and are larger than golf balls, maybe close to tennis ball sized. The leaves are also different, they are very narrow, slender leaves and there are lots on each stem. I know there are about a ga-zillion different varieties of tomato, so I won't be surprised if I never know what these are. If you have any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them!!

Oh, if it is of any help, I know that the nursery carries brandywine, some Amish tomato, celebrity, early girl, better boy, roma II and regular roma, ummmm ... sure I'm missing a couple...

My guess is brandywine, and that was before I saw your list of what the nursery carries! The leaves look like that . Heirloom tomato, BUT I've read that they are a "late" tomato 90-100 days.

I have had these tomatoes growing in my garden since April 10th. I bought them then and they were about 6 inches tall, so they could be fairly old. And we've had crazy-hot weather (which just recently cooled) since about February. Don't know if that effects how quickly they set fruit...

Definitely not brandywine. Too early, too productive and not oblate enough. Also regular leaf foliage. Looks more like early girl to me Sarah.

I was thinking that brandywine's had a larger fruit--this one is only probably 3 or 4 ounces, tops. The leaves look right for an early girl, though I'm no expert. Thanks for the imput John, and Melcon6!
