Author Garden: What have I found?~Commelina communis~Day Flower Tonya Garden Pro! Member # 9000 posted                       I was "patrolling" the back yard with the baby and found a few of these blooming. The tallest was about 3 inches tall. What in the world is this?? Is it a wildflower or "escaped" domesticated plant? I have them pop up all over my yard I believe its the same flower. I will look it up and try to find a pic of one. Don't know what they're called. Member # 7304 posted                       I have a plant called a 'day flower' with identical bright blue flowers. It is considered a weedy form of tradescantia; a cousin to spiderworts and wandering jews. The leaf form on mine appears different than yours. Mine has green wandering jew type leaves and is a vining type plant. Yours looks more like spiderwort type leaves If you take one of the flowers and pinch it between your fingers it will pretty much disappear with a little bit of blue stain left. * * * * ~Tina Getting old is the pits. Member # 9000 posted                       I really don't think that is what it is...I have spiderwort in other areas of the same unmowed yard and it is over a foot tall. Is there a dwarf version? these plants are only about 2-3 inches tall. Member # 9000 posted                       Tina seems to be the winner...the flowers do disappear with a blue stain left. She calls it "day flower" I had to wait until another one bloomed so I could test this theory. I have spiderwort everywhere, but htis plant is so different, that I knew it wasn't that unless dayflower is a form of spiderwort. Anyway! I have found a whole slew of them around my house.
