I've been looking several years for a particular plant which, as I recall, have small purple flowers, small leaves, thin branches, and I believe grew to be at least 3 feet high. The really unique thing about this plant is that their seeds are in small round seedpods that were spring-loaded, so that if you touch them them they would pop, and put out little green things, sort of like party poppers! My grandma had them in her garden when I was a child. My mom called them "popping plants", but no doubt that was her own invention. Does anyone know what this plant is?

Cool! Then it's not my imagination. Might as well be, because it's so hard to find. I would expect these fun plants to be popular in childrens gardens at botanical gardens- but nope, they're just not to be found.

I googled cleome and balsam, but it's not either of those. It doesn't have those long stems like cleome. I'm guessing it's a perrenial, or perhaps a shrub.

Oh yes RugbyHukr & Weezie, that is it! I'm sure it is! I can see it sitting right there against the wall, behind the arbor with the swingset that hangs down. That is certainly what was in my grandmother's backyard. I can't wait to go out and order one! I'm grateful; almost tear-y.

My neighbor gave me some touch me nots last summer....they do spread very easily, but I don't mind that....That's just more for me to plant other places, or share with my family.
I liked them a lot last summer actually!

Hummingbirds love the orange ones. So do deer. I've never seen the purple... My friend makes soap using the orange. Gets rid of any garden itch right away.
