This is about 2 1/2 feet high. I'd like to know what it is so I can propagate it! Any ideas?

The only thing is, all the diffenbachias I look up have a light-dark color to them, and the base of the leaves seen to be all wrong. Is there anything else it could be??

see what gardencrazy wrote above - on second thought, I think I agree with that.

I would guess it's a bird of paradise plant.

Try googling "bird of paradise foliage" and compare it to your plant's leaves. [grin]

I do believe we have a winner! It really resembles a Bird of Paradise because of the stalk (which disqualified the spathiphyllum), but there are no flowers as of yet so I can't be too sure.

my 2 cents...

the leaf seems too wide for a bird-o-p, plus they should have flowers or stalks now.

strelitzia

the leaves resemble a spathe, but there is not enough foliage.

spathiphyllum

it may be a musa species. their leaves are often mistaken for spathe when young.

I looked up the dwarf banana. The base is wrong on it. If you look at the base of my plant, it's one solid base, and the leaves kind of sprout up all rolled up, then they unfurl.

The thing about the base is, it almost looks like a celery stalk does at the base, the leaf stem sort of wraps on the base (not all the way around), and then it gets a little thinner as it goes up near the leaf. Some of the plant pics that have been posted here have very similar leaves, but the base of the plant is a whole bunch of thin stems - they don't come together like mine.

This is so confusing!! I'll try to post a better pic of the base.

I still think that it is in the musa family. Just young with a thin base still.

Imagine what yours may look like after the trunk becomes larger & the branching stalks are up a few more inches.
