Has anyone transplanted a Manzanita? They are wild here and I want to move some out front. We moved a beautiful one and it didn't make it. Plants: 8 | From: So Calif | Registered: Aug 2006

Autumn is the best time to transplant Manzanitas; the winter rains can stimulate growth. They prefer very well drained soil, but will tolerate poor soil and rocky or sandy somewhat acidic to rich soil. Mulching will suppress weeds and encourage rooting along the stems. Depending on the weather, water every 4-7 days during the first summer after planting; once established you can go on once a month watering.

Love manzanita ! For years I was told that it was illegal to dig it up - is that true? I know that there are several varieties. Hope yours will be OK !

If the ones you want, were in a dry area, the root sytem may not hold a good rootball together. Try finding one that is not too large. Maybe you can get enough soil.
You may need the soil to be moist so that it's not a dry ball cracking apart.
