I moved my seed feeder to the weeping birch in front of my window because the birds were not hitting it where it was.
This is my first visitor. Not sure what he is, but very pretty!
And a view from the side to see his markings better. It is a little blurry though.

Thanks Thorny, I knew you would come through for me. I have had about a dozen of them since I moved the feeder. It is a lot of fun to watch them eating.

They also can become very tame and eat out of your hands - we fed them when we cross country skied up at Lake Tahoe, and the ones here are almost at that point of trusting me.

I have about 5 Chickadees that use my feeders, but mine are a different sub-species called the Carolina Chickadee. They are smaller than the Black Capped Chickadee and the Black-Capped have a deeper, huskier voice, but otherwise the two species are almost identicaL.

That egret picture reminded me of a question I have, and maybe you know the answer to it since you know about birds and live in Florida.
I used to go to Florida a lot, and always stopped at a restaurant on I-75 that had some woods beside the parking lot. The trees were filled with huge bird nests, and the birds in the nest were gigantic white birds. Every tree had several nests in it, full of these birds.
Do you have any idea what they were?

OK, you asked for it! Thank you for such a nice response. As for the birds on I-75. I live up in NW FL and have not done much birding that direction however, my first guess would be that the birds were osprey. They are a bird of prey and would probably have had their nest more near water, they are more shaped like an eagle type bird. They very well could have been the egret in my picture. They roost very high up in tree tops and there are usually a lot of them, more than one nest. That must have been a pretty fun sighting. We also have white ibis which are pretty big I am not too familiar with their nesting habits. Here are a few pics, one of the osprey in my backyard, (not good and clear but OK) and a real bad pic of the osprey pulling a fish out of the lake behind my house.

Many people overlook the sheer beauty of black birds because at a glance they are.....well.....just......BLACK! But if you take the time to really look the beauty of black birds can be startling......

Yep Mark took it!!! He had the 30 ft ladder up, and came down to tell me about his find so I sent him back up with the camera!
BTW, I actually don't mind the Grackles too much....I figure they have to eat too....& I think their being irredescent is pretty cool! They actually don't bother too much around here....there are lots of them but they just don't get into my stuff often. Now the Starlings on the other hand....

Starlings are irridescent, too. They are pestersome but comical. The Grackles come here to drink and bathe, but eat only their fair share. I don't find them obnoxious at all.

Easter Sunday morning, as I stepped out on my porch, I was greeted by the traditional Easter bird, the Turkey Vulture! It was wonderful to see such an appropiate symbol of the Holiday flying over the roof of my house (guess I need to finally wash my socks).

Hope everyone had a nice holiday - I had a new yard bird yesterday. This beautiful blue grossbeak decided to take a break right where I could see and enjoy him - I was thankful, I certainly enjoyed him.

Nothing like a nice geranium planter to call the wrens. Mine was out for two days and there was already a complete nest in it. I love the picture.

Had a baby Great Horned Owl leave the nest a little early yesterday. He got stuck in a fence and nicked his face up a little. But mom and dad have him back again and he's doing good.

And posing for a portrait. I am happy to report that mom and dad are taking excellant care of him. He can be seen most evenings out on a branch doing aerobic exercises to strengthen his wings. He flaps and raises the branch he is clutching several inches. I don't know if he does that all night. We don't keep the same hours.

That IS a Kingfisher! A Belted Kingfisher.Good Job . They NEVER sit still long enough and close enough to a person to get a GOOD picture. They are REALLY cool birds. You should watch them hover over a body of water about 100 feet up and then fold their wings and drop like a meteor onto the fish below. They almost never miss.

He is a cool little bird, thorny. I have watched him play! The powerline/phone wire that he hangs out on overlooks an estuary near the mouth of the Kennebec River. There's plenty of fishies in there, must be why he likes it so much. I don't know if it's always been the same one, but only see it solo. I have a good zoom on my camera so I rolled down the car window, got as close as I dared, took pictures, then inched my car down alongside the road and kept zooming in taking pictures, creeping closer and closer until he flew away.
