Put a net over the beans, like a mosquito net, to keep them off.
or
Harvest the grasshopeers, dip into a batter and stir fry
or
mix 2 cups of treacle/golden syrup/molasses with a gallon of water and spray the plants. The hoppers don't like sticky feet. Weird eh!

A derivative of sugar manufacture. Sort of like molasses in texture but sweet. AKA golden syrup.
It is sugar before being crystallized basically.

A beer batter would be OK i reckon. Or an egg batter.
Recipe.
Make the batter,
coat the grasshoppers in the batter.
Heat oil
Add battered grasshoppers.
Crunchy!
Supposed to be nice actually.
Be interesting to try it. Maybe a nice sweet chilli sauce.....

Grasshoppers are NASTY!!! [Razz] I never realized how much damage and eating they could do !!

I look really funny when I go after them , chasing them around the yard, yelling obscenities while stomping them.

I just recently read to use the slug bait pellets and so we are trying that at the farm I work at and it has reduced their numbers greatly. [thumb]

Hey Mandi, this part is serious, so is the bit about using netting to keep 'em off. Give the sticky stuff a go.

Longy, I can't help but think that you'd attract ants with that solution??? [dunno] At least they don't do the damage that the grasshoppers do. The grasshoppers love my basil. [Mad]

Ants are already there and do no damage anyway. Try it. Sticky stuff diluted, sprayed on plants. Not rocket science. If it doesn't work, then you'll know. (but it works.)
