Author Garden: Watermelons in a container? Katica Gardener Member # 10285 posted                       Does anybody know if it's possible to successfully grow watermelons in a container. My kids spit their seeds in an empty pot we had and we have a pretty nice plant growing now with blossoms and all, but wondered whether it was realistic to hope for fruit from it. Member # 772 posted                       How big is the plant now??? And what kind was it, one of those big watermelon's or like a baby~mini one??? You can always hope and stay positive about it.. If it was seeded and sprouted early enough, I don't see why not that you couldn't get one... And maybe if you see a few female flowers, you can leave at least like 3 and make sure those one's ripen fully... They LOVE the sun and will grow fast and big in the suns ray!! Also the watermelon plants take a good DEEP watering each day, I keep my soil moist in the heat we have(high 90's to over 100), dont SOAK it all at once, a slow drizzle for about 5 minutes twice a day should do the job.
