Hi there! This is the second time I've tried to keep one of these 18 inch cypress trees alive indoors. They sell them as Christmas trees, and they seem to start to reject water or something, and they dry out. Can I prune this down and do something with the root bulb? I live in Massachusetts, so I can gradually bring it outdoors. I'm still watering it to keep the root bulb wet.

I've never heard of this. Is it a small cypress tree like the ones that grow in the bayous of Louisiana? What about the bulb? Does it have another name?

I've been looking around a bit and "cypress christmas tree" comes up with Leyland Cypress which is hardy to zone 6 (sorry, Metalauren from Mass!). You can look around for yourself, but if this is what your plant is, check this: http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/plantanswers/trees/leyland.html
