Thanks for your help, Heather

Thanks Triss, and Angelblossom--they'll look great in no time for you.....I didn't even need to tie them onto the fence...they just worked their own way up it....It was a mess cleaning it off in the fall though....

my beans are growing in full force now. as of today, i count nine breaking the surface. i'm a little concerned for the first one though, as it's still covered in a layer of dirt that isn't coming off even when i spray it with a water bottle. i'm worried that this might inhibit its growth somehow. mind you, i don't have any foundation for this worry, except that it doesn't seem to be happening to my other beans. here is a picture of one of my normal beans, typical of the lot:
here is a picture of the one i'm concerned about:
is that okay? should i brush it off with my fingers? i don't want to screw around with it too much for fear of killing it. those of you in the know, please let me in. thanks! endofthewor1d.

Ok Triss I got it off. And then I decided to do the plop method of transplanting lol. I took it's egg carton and all and plopped it into a larger decorator pot. This is where I hope it will stay through out the summer. I intend to try and keep it indoors. And make it frame my east facing kitchen window. I have venetion blinds and I just don't care for them. So I'm hoping the vine will cover them up for the most part.

Will the roots grow through the egg carton crate?

Hmmm, that's a good question Triss....they're pretty big roots...I'd try to cut the bottom out of the egg carton Tammy.

I hope it works for you Tammy..growing it indoors. I've got to dig up the ground on the sides of the arbor and I'm going to start my other PHB outside in the ground, I hope it works out alright.
joclyn ~ I've never fertilized mine, and they do very well. You harvest the seeds after the purple pods turn brown and dry - it you take the seeds before they will not be ready. My seeds seem to be good for at least a couple of years now.
They come in white also, but I've never seen seeds for them for sale around here.

My white Hycinth Bean sprouted this afternoon woohoo! I can't wait until it gets large enough to bloom. This is so much fun. I'm keeping one of the purple and one of the white inside and going to let them grow around the east facing kitchen window. I think that's going to look great.
