just a question i have young kids and wonder if umberella grass is poisonous

Here are places to look. I don't know what umbrella grass is. There certainly are exceptions, but mostly a person (even a small child) has to eat a fair amount of something to get the toxic effects, and mostly the toxic plants taste bad enough that the person/child wouldn't want to eat that much of it.
