I bought some canna and they have started shooting out stocks. The problem is the garden isn't ready yet. What do I do? I'm feeling alittle panicked.

Do you want to put them in a regular old planter pot for now? It should be pretty easy to transplant later. If you use a large enough pot, they won't grow roots enough to fill the pot so they shouldn't go through too much root shock.... Just a theory.

Don't panic! My cannas from last year are still in their pots from Home Depot, and they're just fine. As long as the roots are healthy, it will come back. What are your cannas in now??

Believe it or not they are still in the plastic bag they came in.
My landlord says I can plant them in the big cement pot he has out front. It gets plenty of light and he has a green thumb so I think that's what I'll do.
I was reading some info on the cannas last night and it said that the stocks that break will not flower, so I think I have lost several flowers this year but I will be ready for them next year. When I lift them I'll have a plastic lined box all ready for them so any early stocks will be protected from getting broken.
Do they really multiply 4 to 8 times a year? If they do I might have some trading material next year and that would be really cool.

hi if you put them in the cement pot make sure it has a drain hole as to not let them get watered loged.if they get to wet they might rot on you.keep them under cover from the rain if no drain in pot.just a idea.your friend in gardening.mike57

tkhooper they will grow fast and divide several times if you let them. I dug up and transplanted 50 and gave to a lady friend of mine about 70 miles norht of here. They bloomed within 3 weeks. Also took some to my sister and my neice they also bloomed fast. I was told any bulb plant if the bulb or stalk was disturbed would no tbloom that year I find just the opposite to be true. I transplanted some daffodils in January February I divided them and replanted them they are blooming now in March. So I wouldn't worry about them blooming if you break a stalk. There is no promise they will bloom but could. Also make sure they have plenty of Drainage so you don't get root fungus or root rot. Good Luck with them.

Whenever I plant I become a nervous nellie, sure that they won't sprout your encouragement is keeping me going. And this year I have gotten so many plants that I am unfamiliar with that it's really wonderful that you all are there and willing to support me through this.
