A couple of my gerbera daisy plants leaves have holes in them and are turning brown and rotting. I looked on the backside of the leaves and there are no bugs but I'm starting to think they are getting too much water. Can overwatering cause this to happen?

sure can! over watering is as bad, and sometimes worse, than under watering...
