When we moved in a few years ago...this thing had blooms like crazy in Spring. Last year, I noticed it looked wierd and had (I think white fly) and few other things...so I got some stuff to kill that. The pests have been gone for a while now....but no flowers at all still.
Is this normal? Does it take more than a year for it to bloom again? The foliage looks great.

I have several hibiscus of different kinds....one thing I CAN tell you is hibiscus do NOT like wet feet....and with all this rain we have had lately that is probably the reason for your lack of flowers....it is in my case right now. And watch out....the white flies are starting in right now.....I just noticed them this morning....they are starting with that circular behavior on the back of the leaves...just a matter of time before all the white cottony spider web looking stuff appears along with the flyers.

Hi Rosebud! Just a thought, seeing as I've done this before myself...did you prune the tree after it set buds already? That will definately do it, as I found out!

Yes...he's been pruned nicely...I think you may have a point there, Catlover....this rain....ARGH.
I'm armed and ready for those whiteflies. But the first time I sprayed them (hose attachment pesticide) I was not prepared for them all flying at me.....EEEEK!

Year before last I used a systemic but darned if I can remember which one I used. Last year I didn't have a problem with that bush but the rest of them got white flies. So last year I was out there with the soap and water mixture in a hand squirt bottle but that had to be done each week and then rinsing them all. I have a lot of odds and ends from my dad's things so not sure which one I used. NOTE TO SELF: Remind self to LABEL, LABEL, LABEL what works on what!
Shhh....I think we may be drying out for awhile.

Hi ya'll!!! Ortho Systemic Insect Killer (formerly Isotox) does a nice job when nothing else works. As for your hibiscus, just keep them free of pests, fertilized properly, and watered properly, and you'll have new buds before you know it! Oh, also, how much sunshine are they getting?

I do love hibiscus, I can only have them in the house though. I do not have an ounce of shade in my yard. they do not like being soaked and they do love the humidity, when we got our wood burner I could not for the life of me keep it where it liked to be. You are lucky, I am going to try it again this year, and see if I can keep it going. the last one I had was 6 years old before the dryness got to it,lol. Elfinone, once the weather turns warm, by all means, put that hibiscus in the full sun, and just make sure the soil doesn't dry out. It will go crazy.

A healthy hibiscus looks great anywhere! I have a busy season ahead of me...13 hibiscus started from cuttings last year, plus 7 more to replant and relocate!

Wonder what hybiscis would look like planted as a hedge down both sides of the drive-way? I am condidering doing it. Those things are really easy to root.

That would look really nice. Planning on using mine as a hedge along our fence in the front and sides of the house, plus pop a few oleanders in here and there. Oops, better not get myself started...I'll end up writing a book on each plant and where I plan to put it. Wouldn't be a very short story!

Hi all i grow the dinner plate type hibiscus and i planted as a hedge down both sides of a roadway at a entrance to a city owened camp ground.for the city of gadsden alabama.noccalula falls park and camp ground it looked great i used mixed colors.the campers loved them.they love full sun.and like water abought twice a week in dry weather.the dinner plate is hardy in zone 7 and comes back evry year from the roots just mulch them real well through the winter mounths.i also try and save seeds off of them.but have traded all my seed for this season.if any of you have any seeds you would part with i would send you a sase.i love hybiscus an i am trying to get a more varity of them.thanks your friend.in gardening.mike57 good luck on yours reblooming.
