I am relatively new to gardening, but am anxious to learn. We recently purchased Carolina Jasmine and I am wondering what is the difference between the Confederate Jasmine and the Carolina Jasmine. I want the Jasmine that stays green all year. I'm not sure whether the Carolina Jasmine will do this. I sure would appreciate any and all the help I can get. Thanks.

angelfish, the difference is significant. first of all, carolina jasmine is actually carolina jessamine and is not fragrant, not jasmine at all, has pointier leaves, and is blooming now, with beautiful yellow blooms. it will stay moderately green most of the year, depending on the amount of frost you have, but isn't a true evergreen. the vine is rather spindly, but fairly strong.

confederate jasmine is a jasmine, smells wonderful, has rounded leaves, and from what i could tell, has stayed a dark green most of the year. i bought one last year and it has stayed pretty green. the vine is thicker and "woodier"

both grow fairly easily and are true vines, wrapping themselves around whatever comes along. i don't know how easily the confederate roots, but i know that the carolina has shallow roots and is very easy to pull up and send along.

carolina jessamine grows wild here on the georgia/south carolina border and lines my driveway. if you check out the desk top of the day photos, you will find one (or more) there as i have sent several to bill.
