Hi! I'm growing Morning Glories (Flying Saucer variety, Ipomoea Tricolor)from seeds I cultivated last season. They transplanted well and are 8-10'long entwined in a wall of Ivy. One plant has produced three flowers to date. The others have produced none. Foliage is heavy and a healthy green. I fed them once with Miracle Grow and water about every third day. I will not feed them again. Is there a way to force them to flower? Or should I let nature take its course and simply wait. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Drawde
You're right on the NO Miracle Grow.. That produces green, lush growth...
Try some Alfafa Meal, *3~7~0* That's a slow release organic fertilizer.. with a high middle number...
Alankhart and I have had discussions on these plants, and no real fertilizers should be applied. **Some plants just do better when left alone and aren't pampered..**
Can I ask what kind of soil your plants are grown in???? Was it regular garden soil or a bagged mixture???
And Welcome by the way, we're very glad you found us....there's lot's to do here, and lot's to do here thru every season, especially during those long, cold, wintery days!!! And many Illinois~ian's *is that a word?*

I've got a fence of morning glories - no flowers to date. They've been there since we moved in, my guess is they've been growing there for years. I haven't added anything to the soil, am just letting them go...but am in S. Illinois and haven't seen any flowers either, so you're not alone - may be they'll come later? I hope

weezie, The peat pots I first used were transplanted into larger pots containing Miracle Grow potting mixture. I then transplanted those larger pots into the ground surrounding them with more Miracle Grow mixture. Drawde

My MG's are just barely starting to grow. My guess is that they are jsut getting a very late start this year. They grew with no help form me last year, so I am not doing anything to them this year either. Once they do start blooming, they dont stop for a long time.

I have a good feeling that if you wrote Miracle Grow 3 times, (2 for dirt and 1 for the liquid fertilizer) You're going to get alot of leaves and growth....
Last year I tried something called "Spray~n~Grow" *it's a foliar spray boughten on the QVC..* I got blooms.. But I am still out "in decision" on that product yet...
But I wouldn't loose hope yet.. It is only the middle of July... and we've been hearing that alot haven't seen too many blooms yet either...

I haven't a thing yet either - nice foliage though.
Also, the bleeding heart beside them - kaboodled. Bleeding heart likes a rich soil, they say - 'fraid I don't have it - doesn't matter what I add to the hole, that ole clay stuff takes over.
