I purchased some beautiful purple callas this year, back in March. They have consistantly bloomed and I adore them. In the last couple weeks, I have noticed the blooms, if left alone, form some sort of seed inside. Are these viable? If so, how do I harvest them and can I immediately plant them?

nice pics! ok I have absolutely no experience with callas but I know that with most seeds you have to wait until they turn brown or black and then you can harvest them. I don't see why you couldn't plant them immediately after you harvest them :-)

Don't have a clue here. But I'll be watching the string to read the answer. I love harvesting my garden. It is so fun. Especially having something to share with others.

As a general rule for me, i wait till the seed case touches the ground, or falls off. But ya, i'd wait till they get hard, or turn black/brown like Miss Jaime said ^.^

Well...After some work this evening, I found several of these seed cases that have already fallen off the plant and were laying on the ground. One had been bothered by ants.
I have gathered about 3 others this evening and set them to dry out a bit because I don't really know what else to do at this point. They had brittle/filmy brown "casing" around them (used to be the calla flower.) There are a good dozen more 'seed cases' left on the plants that still have green cases on them.
And thanks for the compliment MissJamie...I love my camera (Fugi FinePix 6.2.) It makes it so easy for me.

yes you can grow from seed.the pods dry on the plant and when fall off can lay out to finish drying.they take awhile to dry.sow them in a pot that you can sink in the ground for easy removal.they will start out growing slow.and don't like being disturbed.
