Has anyone grown Linaria purpurea? I ordered the cultiver 'Canon J. Went', a nice pink cultivar, but I've never grown it before. Is it reliably hardy? I've read it will reseed if happy.

Hi alankhart, When I bought my first house, someone gave me a linaria that I planted along side the western wall. It got HUGE, like 4 feet tall, with these gorgeous purple sprays. And it reseeded really well; so much that we were able to distribute the babies to our friends. When I sold my house, my mom snuck in and took her favorites, one of which was the linaria. She planted at her studio, and now, three years later, it is taking over her yard(in a good way). Have you ever seen the annual linaria? They are so delicate and come in all these lovely colors. Good luck with your plant!

I received a few starts four years ago from my dentist's office. Seems to be very happy in my Pacific NW acidic soil. Was warned it can become like a weed if it is too happy. I just pull it out where I don't want it to be. Haven't had to fertilize much. I have one area that is my "wild" garden, I let the plants have their way. Lineria re-seeds and established plants come back each spring.
