I am visiting my daughter in LA and she has a bird-of-paradise plant next to the driveway that needs trimming. I cut out all of the old blooms, but wondered if I should prune any of the leaves also. It is very big and overgrown - about 4' tall and 6'+ in diameter.

If its that overgrown maybe you could dig it and divide it,but are usually quit happy rootbound for blooming.
