I have a couple general questions about spiders.

I've observed webs that are built in different directions some nights....I'm thinking it is the direction of the wind in determining which way they construct their webs....is this accurate?

and second question...I don't even have a guess at this point....why do spiders position themselves head down on their webs???? I know they position themselves in the middle so they can feel the vibrations of movement but don't understand why they are on their heads????
