I just planted my first Maximillian Sunflower tree, and if anybody has grown one before, I need to know if it will need a lattace to support it. I also would like to know if it will need to be cut back in the fall, and how much. I am hoping it will do good, and I plan to plant another if it does. I have it planted on the end of a black kettle hanging on 4 by 4 support posts, and flowers in the kettle.

I have two of them. They do tend to need some type of support because they get so tall. I use individual stakes and stake each stem that needs it. They spread out alot, so I hope you planted it where it has room to grow. Cut the stems down in fall or after flowering. You should have a basal set of leaves at throughout winter.
