From what I have read, as long as the sand in the soil is made of a more granular sand, it will provide proper drainage. Fine sand tends to "clump" together, if that makes sense. Along with that you'll need a humus-type soil. Realizing that my Lavendar hasn't emerged yet where I planted it, I don't profess to have the complete answer. Good luck!
