I have purple spiked globes on the tops of all of my wild onions. What are they? Is that the flower? It's hard.

Cool. They look sci-fi certified. Did you by any chance successfully collect seeds from them. I would love to but I don't know how. I can plant as many as I want because they produce so many bulb babies but someone may want me to send some and that would be better with seeds I think.

Never really looked too closely at the plants. Though the spikes do make an added interest to them.

No that's not it.

You know what a popcorn seed looks like right? Imagine glueing a bunch of those together pointy side out and then dieing the whole thing purple. and it started out alittle below the top of the wild onion but then grew until the tip was gone. So now they are on the top. They had a membrane around them at first but now that has broken open and it is just these hard little clusters.

are the little hard clusters purple too? Was thinking may be those were the seeds, maybe, possibly, perhaps, could be...may be.

It's hot, and I'm delierious.

I don't know. Today the clusters popcorn seed thingy developed long strings from their points. I'm definitely beginning to think alien here. Or maybe it is just the heat.

Weezie, if that isn't it I think it is very close. Yours looks much bigger. I didn't know there were ornamental onions. I didn't know there were that many different flowers on different types of onions. Now I'm interested in seeing my "domestic" onions bloom and the chives just to see which ones I have and if I can identify them. This is so cool.

Well I need to get out there today and chop down the rest of the coriander it's brown about half way up now and I don't think the seeds are going to get any larger lol. That was a very fun experiment.

The chives and the alliums Bill posted,
will have a bunch of little shiney black seeds
at the end of each spike in the flower..
The ornamental allium that I have, is called a
walking onion or nodding onion, and the flower is the same, but then turns under and back..
and when it forms it's seeds, the seeds are actually new bulbets...
When the stalk of the plant dies, and they fall
to the top of the dirt is where a new plant will
be the following year...

And there's quite a few different ornamental onion's/alliums.. oh, some of them have the prettiest colors of yellow and pink..and purple and white.. and blue!!!!

He was helping a friend try to figure out what

I can't help much with that. I just plugged it in and the pictures would show up in the program that came with the camera. Sorry.

I was just teasing. Sometimes it comes out kind of heavy handed.
