I have a grafted cherry tree, where all the fruit braches have died, but the root stock seems to be still going strong. (note to self: sweet cherry trees don't grow well in zone 5).
Is there any information sources for starting a new graft on this existing root stock (including where to purchase this stock)?
Thanks,
Paul

Paul, here is a link to a University of Missouri article that discusses grafting in some detail. I'm not sure about where you would purchase stock for grafting onto your rootstock. All of the nurseries I know of sell previously grafted stock.
Here's a suggestion, though. Is there anyone living near you that has a cherry that is doing well? If so, perhaps they would let you take a cutting. Then you would have a cherry that you know would be hardy for your area.

Great idea! I didn't realize that scions were just simply trimmed branches. I thought they were select main shoot leaders. Thanks.
