deaner, how much sun and water does your plant get? i grow avacado trees all the time i try to make sure mine get at least 4 hours of direct sun and a little shade. i water mine only when the soil is dry(i use the knuckle method) up to the 2nd knuckle on my index finger. i hope this helps you.

Avos love water but they don't like to sit in it, no wet feet for them. What kind of avocado do you have?
My dad has a grove of avocados in San Diego county here in Ca (mostly Haas). Most of them are on a hill, they are great trees for a slope. His sprinklers are on a low setting so they get a good soak but don't sit in a puddle, but since they are on a hill that would be pretty hard to do anyway.

i have the kind you start from the pit of a store bought avacado. my mum got me hooked on growing them. they get pretty tall but not too wide of a trunk if you know what i mean

Do they produce fruit for you? My neighbor just gave me her avocado tree she started from a pit (she's moving and couldn't take it with her). The most common variety in the store would be a Haas. Its the kind with the bumpy skin, the most recognizable avocado. There are also Fuerte and Reed varieties, they have smooth skin and don't turn black when ripe. The Reeds are more round than oval and the fruit is kind of nutty. There are probably more but those are the three I've seen and eaten.

mine have never produced fruit. i dont think i grow them under the right conditions for that,but i'm going to look into it now though

If you do a forum search on avocados I know we've talked about growing them from the pit before. If I recall correctly it takes many years before it matures and starts producing.
I do know avocados don't like to be cold and tolerate temps in the 30s but not for very long. Do you bring your avocado in for the winter?
