Anyone know how I can get fig trees growing from fresh figs? Hurry, before I eat them all! [Big Grin]

My Italian grandfather used to grow fig trees many years ago, and I thought it would be neat to try starting one myself. I know they're a lot of work to overwinter here in NJ, but I thought it'd be a neat experiment...

Thanks!

you start them from cuttings.their are some that are easier to grow for you than me as container plants.Brown turkey would be a good one for you to try as a beginner.you could try searching the nurserys around you or lowes& are a few mailorder places that sell fruit trees.

and I'd try growing in a 10 gallon contaienr.you'd start out smaller, but work up to a 10 gallon.it would be manageable to move, but if got a good back& a dolly well go for larger then.

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, the more I read about growing from seeds, the more unlikely it seems...

I'll have to see if the Black Mission figs from Cally are even viable...

In my preliminary research, I had no idea that a ficus was a fig tree. [Embarrassed] That's the newbie I am! [Big Grin]
