I have these orange canas that are over 10 feet tall and are still bloomiing quite heavily. I live in northern Virginia and will need dig them up before the snow. When would the best time to dig be? I don't want to pull them out when they are still flowering so nicely. What should I store them in? Peatmoss maybe?
Thanks!
Renee

10 feet? Wow! Here in Illinois they only reach about 3ft. but they do bloom profusely. I dig up my cannas in the fall, when the foliage browns. I knock off the dirt and store them in peat moss in my basement. Seeing as its February, are they still in the ground and/or blooming?

No Scarlet, I dug them up in november and dried them for a day to get most of the dirt off and they are now and snug in peat moss in a crawl space under the house. I could send you a picture if you liked, do you have email? They really were quite amazing, I got them from my cousin and they weren't that tall in Maryland. They were about 5 ft or so. I told my neighbor that her horses are on steroids, that's where I get my "goodies" for my gardens. lemme know if you want a picture.
