i have some draceanas that aren't exactly leggy, but... if i cut them off about 2 inches above the soil and root the tops, will the "bottoms" grow new leaves? or sprout from the sides?

You'll probably get 3 to 5 new tops on top of each of the stumps (which can be cut off and rooted...) if ya get enough of em you can do something like this!!!!

A healthy Dracaena stem will produce a new "head" just below the cut. In the home, it is rare to get more than one or two "heads" on each cut stem.

I had a stalk of "Lucky Bamboo" that just would not grow and then it started turning yellow. I cut it off below the yellow part and stuck it in some water hoping to revive it. What are the chances that this will work? Is there anything else I can do to help it? Also, Bill, how long did it take you to make that plant/vase/sculpture thingy? It's really cool!

applescruff, what i would do (and have done) is to put the cut part in a pot of potting soil/peat mix. I covered my janet craig draceana with a plastic cover to make a mini greenhouse. rooted beautifully. unfortunately, the bottom died [Frown] (although, it was going to die anyway at the rate it was going - it was a "rescue" plant)

i didn't have time to finish the posting, but here is what i have done for my plastic "covers". I cut the top off of 2 & 3 liter soda bottles, the clear ones (not the green ones) and then invert the bottom over the plant to make a "mini" greenhouse. worked great with my draceana's!
