Our gardenia,transplanted from our old place about 5 months ago,is flourishing but not flowering as we are coming to the end of summer Down Under. Can anyone help me? Muzza

Hello Muzza. I just got a gardenia recently. I'm no expert but it seems to like a 10 degree drop in temp. at night. Are you fertilizing it. That's all I have to add but wellcome to the garden helper!

Hello Muzza, Welcome from The Garden Helpers Forum!!!! We are very glad you found us!!!!
I just wanted to let you know, that although, I personally can't help you with your question, that there is every type of gardener here from the Master Gardener to the brand new gardener and every other type of gardener in between too!!!
I'm going to move your post into a section where a few more of those gardeners tend to go to answer questions, but feel free to come back to this same section and introduce your self if you'd like and tell us a bit about yourself, or your country and growing conditions, we would love to hear about your gardening and things in your neck of the woods, Are you still considered "Over the pond"??? We do have a few members from your area, he's I think one's put himself on our guest map!!!
And we hope you'll stick around, enjoy the site while you're waiting for one of the gardeners to come through and help you...
We have alot of little different areas that'll keep you busy, and we'd love to have you add something to the board if you see something that you see. We have many sections, Hobbies..... go add something there and if you don't see yours add it to the board... Recipes, Crafts, Game room, Banter hall for chatting...
Really a nice group of people, we call us here a "Cyber Community" great friendships as well...

Can I ask a few questions from you first and those answered will help the gardeners coming through narrow something down for you in a bit..
What time of year did you move it?? (ie: was it really hot, stressful.....too muddy) What did you do to prepare the hole you put your new plant in??? Have you fertilized it?? (ie: too much, not at all) Have you kept it watered, or over watered..???
And I do have one thing to add, not being an expert on gardenia's by no means, but plants in general sometimes when you plant or re~plant them, they are better in the long haul to establish a GOOD SET OF ROOTS FIRST BEFORE BLOOMING" Maybe that's what it's doing, (***Setting up house before it has children, )

I WOULD NEVER BE RUDE TO SUCH A GREAT SITE, BUT I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURE'S ARE YOU SENT TO MUZZA. WE ALL DON'T DO CELSIUS. MAYBE I SHOULD LEARN. THANKS.

WEEZIE, I NEED TO ASK U A QUESTION... DO U KNOW WHAT A BLACK BAT PLANT IS? I BOUGHT ONE IN THE MARK DOWN SECTION OF WALLYMART. ITS A RARE TROPICAL PLANT. MAYBE SOMEONE WILL LET ME KNOW IF THEY HAVE OR EVER HAD ONE. HAD ONE LEAF WHEN I GOT IT. NOW IT HAS 2.
Tf = temperature in Fahrenheit ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius:
Tc = (5/9) x (Tf-32)
a. divide 5 by 9 = 0.555 b. subtract 32 from Fahrenheit temp. c. multipy 0.555 by the reduced Fahrenheit temp.
ex: Tf = 62*F
a. divide 5 by 9 = 0.555 b. subtract 32*F from 62*F = 30*F c. multiply 30 x 0.555 = 16.65*C
62*F is about 16.65*C

Tf = (9/5) x (Tc) + 32*F
a. divide 9 by 5 = 1.8 b. multiply 1.8 by the Celsius temp. 3. add 32*F
ex. Celsius temp. = 16.6*C
a. divide 9/5 = 1.8 b. multiply 1.8 x 16.6*C = 29.88 c. add 32 to 29.88 = 61.88*F
16.6*C is about 62*F (0.88 rounded off to 1.0)
I should have indicated the temperatures in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. I am sorry I didn't do that at the time I made the post.
I now have indicated the temperatures in both Celsius and Fahrenheit. See below.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To force the Gardenia to flower, the ideal temperatures are about 18*-21* Celsius/ 65*-70* Fahrenheit during the day and 15.5*-16.6* Celsius/60*-62*Fahrenheit at night.
Flowers will fail to form if the day temperatures are higher than 21* Celsius/70*Fahrenheit or night temperatures less than 15.5* Celsius/60* Fahrenheit.
Part of the problem could be that your day temperatures are about 23*-28* Celsius/75*-82*Fahrenheit (day) and 12*-14* Celsius/54*-57*Fahrenheit (night). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

hi schoe welcome to the garden helper. congrats on your gardenia cuttings. what i would do is mix a good quality potting soil like miracle grow, with some sand and pot the cuttings up. after you see some new leaf growth, then you can plant them out where you want them.
