1. i have what i am pretty sure is a dracaena tri-color. it has a bright pinky-red strip down the center with green on each side and edged in a golden rusty red. beautiful plant. i repotted it today into a more suitable pot, and discovered that it has 2 "branches" coming from the main trunk and then there are 2 very new shoots coming from the main trunk lower down. can this plant be split up?
2. one of my new aquisitions, a dracaena "janet craig" was in dire need of pruning, potting, etc. it was almost leafless for the first 14 inches, but had litterally curved around the pot trying to get some light. I cut it into sections, and put the top into a pot to root. (did the whole plastic bag over it thing). about how long before it roots? anyone know?
3. same dracaena as above, i cut the leafless part into "logs" and put them in potting soil to root. a couple of them already had the thick "air roots" on them. how long before I see new growth on them?

Hi Jiffymouse, Your dracaena tricolor is really pretty. This site has general care info for the species you have, but not the exact same variety.

You could split it up, but I would wait until the new shoots are about 6" tall before I do that. These plants often look nice with several stalks in one pot, so you may decide not to. If you do, you will discover that the new shoots grow from the mother and are attached by an underground runner. It takes them some time to get mature enough to have enough roots to sustain themselves.

It could take six months before it develops a strong root system. Take a look here at some helpful tips on propagation of houseplants.
For question #3 on how long to see new growth, the plants will need to establish a root system before they are strong enough to support new growth. Here's some interesting info on your 'Janet Craig'.

Make sure on #3 you have them oriented right. You need to make sure up stays up on the logs. Same thing is true for sanseveria.
Also watch the fluoride if you have city water. Dracaenas are notorious for have tip burn from fluoride toxicity.
