Hi [wayey] folks;
can someone tell me if I am to cut back my butterfly shrubs this fall? Do they bloom from
old growth or new growth?
Thanks for any help.

My nieces Grandmother has a HUGE one--she NEVER cuts it back or even trims it. I am sure that if you do cut it back or trim it, it will have new growth in Spring (it should anyway whether or not you trim)!! [thumb]

Hi Pinky,

Best to cut back in spring before the leaves pop out. If you cut it now, you risk freeze damage to what you leave behind. They bloom on new wood.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
