ok over at neighbors digging plants. Is lilrope grass.ok these clump i have moved today so far They are tall.but are growing in full sun.

#are there different types of lilirope grass?

# also how drastic can I divide them?will they fill out if thin them down so can have more to spread in an area?

There are some others that grow in shade under there that are not tall like these are.are 14 plants I believe I counted but would like to thin down so can surround 2 trees.Cedar trees is a southern cedar if ya need to know.but the soil is good under them.

Liriope will spread out slowly to form a moderate clump, so you could probably divide them into smaller pieces. There is a tall liriope, a dwarf one and a variegated type. They do well in sun and shade.

Mine was planted between 2 miscanthus that got so huge I couldn't see it. Each year I would cut them all back, and find numerous runners of the liriope growing out in all directions from the main plant. I finally dug it all up this past fall and broke it into 3 nice sized clumps and put them elsewhere in my gardens. I have also taken just a few runners and planted them together and got a nice sized clump from that.
They are pretty indestructable!

I have purplr flowering liriope edging a curved path, it is wonderful. You can step on it ocassionally without hurting it.

I also have a white flowering and a varigated variety. Mine stay green until about February. In the spring I cut them way down so just the fresh new leaves will show.

Ah spring I can hardly wait.

That "row"ya see...well THAT was 2 plants.they were probably a 2x2 plant when dug it.it was heavy too so i split it in 3 to get it in wheelbarrell.
I just wanted to be sure it was a taller type and not just tall cause was in sun.My mom went with the varigated.but she chose cause was more of it available at her Lowes in TN.

I don't think I will be moveing anymore of it today. We've had about 4 inches of rain and is huge puddles EVERYWHERE.I really should invest in some rain buckets.I could have filled them overnight.

Allan.....ya got a latin name for those tall types?
Thanks ya'll

I believe the taller one is a L. muscari like the others, but the particular cultivar is called 'Lilac Beauty" and I believe it comes from Japan. It grows to about 24".
