Thought I'd share a picture I took this morning after my daughter went off for her first day of high school - 9th grade - at 7a.m. Her school was supposed to open last Wednesday, but due to construction, it didn't open until today! Of course they'll need to make up the missed 3 days - can't wait to see which vacation days they take back!

Anywho... I just love how red this Kalanchoe turns in the full sun. The tag from HD said "flippin flapjacks", the real name is Kalanchoe Thyrsiflora. I have another one in my kitchen windowsill that I bought at the same time, and it is still solid green.

The bumps you see on the leaves are early morning dew drops -
it was quite foggy here this morning.

What a knockout!

I didn't know that there were other kalanchoes besides the flowering kind that I see at the florist's shops. I need to check them out.

Weezie ~ the plant looks much larger than it really is because I cropped the picture. [Wink] It really is about 7 inches across, and about the same in height.

Bess ~ I also didn't know there were different types of Kalanchoe until someone identified it for me - the tag only said "flippin flapjacks".

Gardenmom ~ I'm hoping I don't lose the red coloring when I bring it inside for the winter - time will tell...

Hi Triss ~

I had posted this picture earlier this summer but am happy to share it again. I made the planter in pottery class last year, and was very happy with the way the plants adapted to it. I have since collected about 16 more small succulents and I'm looking for the perfect planters for them.

Those are great! I have a few different things I was going to put in a rock garden this fall, but I'm beginning to get concerned about leaving them out in the winter. So, guess I'll wait til the spring. You get to enjoy yours together without taking up a lot of space. Very cool!
