I have a wandering jew plant and I was wondering if anyone knows if this plant is toxic???

I have a friend who was told by an alternative medicine practitioner that she could loose a significant amount of weight by eating two leaves of the plant daily.

She's been doing it and to her surprise and mine, she really has lot weight. I'd like to try it, but I'm wondering if what she's doing is really safe????

Thanks much!!

Hi Monica! [wayey]
The only thing I found is that wandering jew may cause skin irritation. Here is a website about poisonous plants, its not listed. I didn't find it on any other site either. You may want to call your local government agriculture agency, they may know.

Thanks Papito! I thought it must have some low level toxicity since some sites said it would cause skin irritation but they never went further than that. I'm glad you had more info. [thumb] You're the best!

Thanks to both of you!! You're [angel] I searched high and low trying to find more information and wasn't able to.

It's a beautiful plant to look at but now I know to STEER CLEAR of this stuff! (Well ingesting it anyway)

(sigh) I guess I'll have to stick with good old fashioned exercise! [Razz]

Monica,
Sorry it took so long to respond to your post..I manage an alternative M.D.'s office & I asked the boss about eating wandering Jew...her first response was ribald, hilarious and unprintable... [Embarrassed] but then she said she NEVER heard of eating the stuff & cautioned about digestive disorder... [Frown]
