I planted a BUNCH of gladiola and dahlia bulbs this past spring. I had someone tell me that where I lived, I wouldn't have to dig them up in the fall. Is this true? I live in Richmond, VA. We moved here last fall and I can tell you, there were several nites this past winter that it got down in the teens. I don't know what I should do. I want them to come back next year. I don't know if I should leave them, or dig them up???? [dunno]
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Happy growing!!!! [flower]

Hi Cherbear,
Well, I live in Maryland, north of you between Baltimore and DC, and I leave my glad corms in the ground. Most come back, but it's a bit risky. I do add a pile of thick mulch though. Dahlias can be left on the ground in zone 8 or higher and that doesn't include me. What zone are you in for Richmond?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
