i have a "rescue" poinsettia that i want to just plant outside. living on the edge of zones 8-9 i know that it will need some kind of frost protection some of the time. can i just cover it the way i do my other plants? i really don't need another houseplant, but this one looks like it would be happy in my upcoming raised bed.

Hi Jiffymouse, Unfortunately pointsettias are native to Mexico and grow as little trees in Peru where I was amazed to see them so large. They are hardy in zones 10 to 12, so you'll have to bring it in for the winter months. Here's some links that should be helpful.

I saw some Poinsettias growing outdoors in Vietnam also. It really surprised me. They were as large as dogwood trees. I never thought of them getting that large!
