I just had a number of Bird of Paradise planted in my yard and some of them started to bloom. My question is: When and how do you prune them after the bloom has faded and wilted?
Thanks Dennis

After they start looking ragged go in as deep as you can get and just cut them out. If old blooms are neglected long enough and the stalks are crispy then they will eventually pull right out but that could take years.....I don't like the look of ragged birds so once the feathers of the bird start looking dried I clip them out!
Keep in mind you can use them as cut flowers in an arrangement. Be careful not to get the sap on your clothes...in can stain.
