I really hope someone can help me, We put up an above ground pool last year(very ugly)and now this year the blackbirds fly over it and poop. My husband cleaned the rails off 2 days ago and now on each section of rail theres not 3 inches of space between each bird dropping. They don't do it anywhere else in the yard or on the cars. All day long they just fly over the pool and let em drop.. We put up the pool last spring and didn't have this problem. My husband says they're dropping them from they're mouths(I think he's insane) Any ideas on why they're doing this?????????????

NO Your Husband is CORRECT They are dropping the Fecal sacs of the babies, so they are dropping lil Bags 'o' poop in your pool, and there is nothing you can do about it!

Jenni....just a thought....Watch out that could be scary ....maybe erecting something further away from the pool that they would rather sit on and have their pooping party....maybe with another water source included!!! Catlover

How 'bout that beautiful African Grey on the top of the web page in a diaper! Lola laughed at it!!!
Andy wants me to get this "bird diaper" for Lola, because it never fails...she can go all day and not poop on me, using her potty like a good girl. Then, when Andy picks her up...OOPS!!!

thanks guys but i don't think bird diapers will work since they are dropping it from their mouths while flying over the pool, it is so disgusting. While those ideas might not work they were funny!

How did that nursery rhyme go?....... 4 and 20 black birds baked in a pie? If you live out in the country a 12 guage solution might work.
Seriously speaking how high up are they bombing your pool from? I was wondering if setting aloft some helium balloons on a string may work. Kinda like barage balloons. It worked for the Allies.

Another possible solution for the future. I would not do anything to disturb their habitat now, because it will only be a temporary problem. It should stop after their nesting cycle is over. Black birds nest on the ground in very high grass or weeds, you may be able to keep the problem from happening again if you can find out where they are nesting at and clean up the area to discourage them from nesting there again.

Man, that balloon trick sounds like the answer! Birds are scared to death of balloons! You can't bring a balloon in this house, or Lola will go berserk!

Actually it depends on the TYPE of blackbird in question: The Redwing blackbird does nest in the grasses and marshy areas; However, the common Grackle, nests in Pine, cedar and other evergreen trees, they are the lil POOP BOMBERS around here(property Outlined in cedar and Pine) The grackle has iridescent purple, green and bronze highlights in their plumage. Adults are about one foot in length and have long wedge-shape tails. The Redwing, of course, have the identifiable red on the wings.
