I just planted a "The President" clematis in a container on my south-facing patio. I understand that the roots need to be kept cool and that may be accomplished by planting a shallow rooted friend in the same pot. [party] Any suggestions as to what I may plant with my clematis are appreciated. I was thinking of rock cress?

I grow about 10 differnt clematis & I have used rock cress as a companion plant by making a small rock garden at the base of the clematis..keeps roots nice & cool & then grown the rock cress amoung the rocks. I have also had a lot of success with lamium at the feet of my clematis.

I use Creeping sedum and Creeping Jenny on mine. I like the sedum better. It is easier to control.
