hi david. i have one... send me the pic of your tree to see if they are the same. send it to jiffymouse@thegardenhelper.com

if they are the same, the care is much like that of an azalea or magnolia. and yes, they only bloom for 3 weeks a year.

My neighbor has one and I think it one of
the prettiest trees there is.
The flowers are so neat,
you don't normally see that color here
and it is a nice change to see.

Seems very neat, not messy, maybe some big
leaves in the fall, but hey, better for the compost????

This is a Tulip Tree

I took a peak at your pictures, What a nice back yard you have, Are the water lilies your's??

And do you know the name of the bush/shrub that's in bloom with white flowers??
A Rose of Sharon???????????????????
Couldn't see too close, but very pretty!!!

david, you and weezie are both right. you have the same thing i have which is called a tulip magnolia. fregquently it gets shortened to just tulip tree, but the full name is "japanese tulip magnolia". i love mine and have had it for 13 years. 4 years in the ground then i dug it up and potted it because i was moving. it is in a pot now and quite happy!

I guess that is why they use those darn
Latin names for plants, people get to callin'
something and it get's called that, and it
gets confused!!!
I've got to find a thing for pronouncing them names.....

Read this, the one we have here is in the Magnolia family!!!!!! I didn't know that!!
Thought it was a Poplar!! Tuliptree

Learn something new everyday!

Weezie

Here's the one you guys have tulip tree

Says it gets confused alot with another tree with
the same name.. [dunno]
