Does anyone have a tulip tree ? i have one in my yard, its very pretty but only blooms about 3 weeks of the year big green leaves the rest of the time. Was wondering if i should be doing anything special for it ? Have a pic if interested. Plants: 23 | From: central texas | Registered: Apr 2004

hi david. i have one... send me the pic of your tree to see if they are the same. send it to jiffymouse@thegardenhelper.com
if they are the same, the care is much like that of an azalea or magnolia. and yes, they only bloom for 3 weeks a year.

My neighbor has one and I think it one of the prettiest trees there is. The flowers are so neat, you don't normally see that color here and it is a nice change to see.
Seems very neat, not messy, maybe some big leaves in the fall, but hey, better for the compost????

david, you and weezie are both right. you have the same thing i have which is called a tulip magnolia. fregquently it gets shortened to just tulip tree, but the full name is "japanese tulip magnolia". i love mine and have had it for 13 years. 4 years in the ground then i dug it up and potted it because i was moving. it is in a pot now and quite happy!

I guess that is why they use those darn Latin names for plants, people get to callin' something and it get's called that, and it gets confused!!! I've got to find a thing for pronouncing them names.....
Read this, the one we have here is in the Magnolia family!!!!!! I didn't know that!! Thought it was a Poplar!! Tuliptree
