Creosote grows wild in southern NV and I've got so much of it. Has not been a problem so far - - but did not know what it was (didn't worry about what it was - - nice greens, pretty little yellow flowers). Then a few weeks ago ran across it in a nursery in Las Vegas and learned what it was. Tried doing some research online and in a couple of books - - not too much info.
The question becomes - - is there some sort of connection between creosote used for preservatives (I know that creosote has a petrol base) - - but we have a family member that is highly alergic to that creosote - so the secondary question becomes - - do I need to be concerned and clear it out?
I also have a certain negativity towards poisonous plants - - ergo - - I don't plant them or buy them.

hi jon, i am looking forward to learning the answer to this one! i don't know either. i thought that the preservative was made from pine tar. (we have several creasote plants here in the south) i guess we will see!

Jon, you may want to contact your city or state board of agriculture, they should be able to tell you, or at least point you in the right direction. We have lots of creosote here as well in the desert areas. I too am curious as to what the answer may be. Please keep us updated. If I get a chance I'll do some research too, now that I have my curiosity up I'll have to!

Here is a site on the creosote - did not come up when I did a google search - but found it when I was looking for info on Desert Willow - just an hour or so ago (spent that time id'ing a lot of other "wild" plants I have).
According to it - the Creosote was used by Native Americans for medicinal and other uses.

Don't know why - - but I've seen this happen before - - a number of trips to google to look up something - and then voila a somewhat different listing is obtained - - don't know what I did differently but here are some sites that I think are worth looking at.
