A month ago I went to an orchard and collected a load of apples. It is a dissused orchard (and so I good find). I want to grow some trees from the Apple seeds that I have, but have not got a clue where to start. There are many rare breeds in the orchard and I would like to keep them alive.
The orchard is a fair few miles away so if I am not (unless it is the only option) interesed in taking cuttings and using them. I would just like to know if it is possible to grow from seed. They are all organic apples so have not been treated like the shop bought ones are.

As far as I've read apples grow poorly on there own roots, hence grafting on to a different rootstock.

If you have the land to try growing these seeds....Go for it ! Fruit seeds have to be the type that will grow and produce in your area because of the chill hours that fruits have to have to bloom and produce. I have never grew Apples from seed but I have Plums and Peaches and other grocery store seeds like Guava,Star fruit,Passion Fruit,Chermoi, papaya and avocodo. If later you dont like the quality of fruit, then chop it down. I just like to try planting seeds and see what happens. The Very best peach I have ever had come from a neighbors old tree down the street , I ate the peaches and threw the seed outside and 1 grew into a beautiful tree and was producing wonderful peaches in 4 years,I moved but the lady gave me a few peaches last year from the tree and I saved the seeds and will be planting them this year.
