i planted out half adozen broad bean plants grown from seed.ive staked them to stop slugs eating the leaves but are they suppoosed to grow vertically or just leaft?.there about afoot high.

I have pole beans....are those similiar?? I planted them around tomatoe cages. Mine grew up....and then over themselves and back to the ground because I didn't have time to bang higher stakes into the ground next to them. Now they are all over the garden because they keep growing!!! If your beans are similiar to mine, I think they are supposed to grow like a regular vine.

*Note to self--next year plant the beans AWAY from everything else!!!!*
