I have been growing a rubber plant successfully for about a year now. I decided to repot it into a bigger pot and ever since I did this it is not doing well. The new leaves are reddish instead of green like the other ones and they are very small, like they didn't grow all the way. Also, some of the fresh buds seem to just dry up and not sprout leaves. What could be wrong with it? I keep it indoors by a window.

[wayey] hi aimee [wayey] welcome to the garden helper. i am wondering if your plant wasn't quite ready to be moved to a larger pot, or if you chose a pot too large. when you "up size" a plant, it is important to make sure that you don't "drown" it by accident. if the soil at the center of the pot, where the main stem of the plant is at, doesn't have a chance to begin to dry, you can cause root rot. to check this out, unpot your plant and check the roots and soil. if the soil is wet and the roots are mushy, you will have a rescue job ahead of you. if that is the case, let me know, and i will walk you through it. if that isn't the case, then we will have to look at other possiblilities.

That would explaine why my room mate's is growing better than mine lol. I got a pot with 3 trees in it, and split em up. Mine's in a giant 12" pot, his is in a 6" pot, and the other one is in a shallow 12" plastic pot. The one in the plastic pot is just plain not doing anything. The root system is teeny tiny, and a hole appeared in one leaf.
The one in the 6 inch is 2 leaves grown ahead of mine, while mine is just kinda slowly growing. I don't care ^.^ mine's still better than the ones they have. I donno why rubber trees always come atleast 3 to a pot though >.o

Anywho, ya a bigger pot will cause the plant to not get as much water, because the water will most likely get to the bottom of the pot which is beyond the root system. So i guess its good to replace the pot only to the next size up instead of going from lil to GIANT. [thumb]
