My Russian Lavender has gone crazy. It swoops all over the place instead of standing up straight like English Lavender. Is that normal? When do I prune it and how much should I chop off. I want it to be bushy and tall and straight. Help!

they sell these stand to hold your plants up or can make them out of tomato cages.think would have a hard time getting in one of them cages now BUT>>>>>you could probably do a stake and tie a pair of pantyhose around them at a desired hight

not sure on trimming but would think would trim the feathery part.maybe stake it then trim it till it loos good?
my laveder seeds didn't do well this year...they sprouted then died but the catnip did the same then it reserected itself& is growing slowly now.may have better luck this next spring....I HOPE!

Hello MistressMary,
I just wanted to Welcome you to The Garden Helpers Forum. We have a great bunch of gardeners, very nice and helpful people, and great to chat with. Hope you'll stick around to get to know the gang!!
I have a question??
Did you mean Russian Sage (Perovskia)??
If so, the info njoynit gave is pretty right on target.
Alot probly has to do with where you have them....Are they in full sun????
Some times (like mine) aren't in full sun like they need, they stretch to find the sun which in turns makes them lankier that what should be.
Or maybe they are fertilized a bit much, or heavy on the nitrogen...If I remember correctly which is hard to say now adays, but I think those are one of those that are on the list of needs very little fertilization.
In late fall you can also cut the stems back to 6" or 8" above the ground so that new growth begins near the base of the plant. If you don't trim it back, the plants will be very leggy and poorly shaped the next season. However, don't cut the stems off right the at ground level because the buds on the stems in the fall are next year's growing points.
Hope some of this info helps, hope you stick around and chat some!!!
My brother lives in Eugene, Oregon
(close to you?? Or no cigar???)
and we have several members from
Oregon on here now!
