Can anyone tell me some good stuff about mums? I am interested in some mums that don't look like 'everybody else's" mums - you know the familiar ones sold at the grocers etc. Today I found some beautiful mums named "Glamour" they are unusually large, stalky and a "true" pink/purplish color. I want unusual mums or chrysanthemums that can't be found anywhere - a nursery perhaps - but not at the local grocers. They must be HARDY (of course).Trying to get my garden right (zone 6) before the weather changes and the blooming time ends. Can you suggest websites with pictures of the mums or can you fill me on some special ones and their names. Thanking you in advance in hopes of beneficial direction. One of my favorite mums is 'Stacy'...it has a yellow center with white daisy petals dipped in pink. I plant it mixed with a solid white daisy mum (can't think of the cultivar) and it makes a beautiful combination. I also like 'Beth', 'Daphne', 'Cecile' and 'Margarite'.

I planted a bunch of mums last fall but didn't pay much attention to the names of them. I just went by color. I got most of them at Home Depot. Now they are 2' to 3' high and blooming. I found a good website for info on mums is: www.kingsmums.com
They have about all the information you'll need. I did discover they are not to particular about the soil but they got to have sun. The more sun the better the blooms.
Hope this will help you. I remember talking to Alan when I planted them as it was my first try at mums. Good Luck, Gene
