Hi I need some ideas on how to deal with those little squirrels. I have a couple of young peach trees. They don't produce too
much fruit yet. But last year the squirrels ate most of them. Any good idea to keep them
away? Thanks.

Those little buggers are feasting on my
bulbs too.I would put some cayaine pepper
around the base of the plant. This seems to
work in most cases. If you still have problems
there are some websites that sell squirrel
repellants.
Go to www.ask.com and ask for squirrel
repellants. It is mostly coyote urine but
its supposed to be the best repellant for
squirrels.I tried garlic cloves, but it don't work to well.

Hi Dyan....Here's some other things you can try....keep close watch on your peaches. Once they are getting close to being ripe...pick them before the squirrels get at them. I know that there is nothing better than a tree ripened peach, but picking them a wee bit earlier may be a whole lot better than letting the squirrels get at them.

Another thing you can try, if the trees are not too big yet, is cover them with netting once the fruit has set and is begining to grow. This type of netting will also prevent birds from getting at the fruit as well, yet does not deter sun or rain.

Good luck

Bird net? Good idea! I will try that. Thanks Barb. Last year I picked the peaches way too early, and they didn't taste as good as usual ...

I don't have peach trees, but my grandma swore by her fake owl protecting her trees!
Also, if it is just one particular squirrel, you could trap it and take it to another location?

True, those owl's do keep some small pests away., but you have to move the owl to different locations every day or two. Otherwise the furry pests gets used to the owl being there. The owl's with moving heads are best....movement often scares the little critters away too.
