HELP!!! I don't know the name of this weed but I do know I need to get rid of it. It has a round shinny green leaf, looks like a tiny waterlily leaf, with scalloped edges. The root is white and grows just below the soil line. It is a runner. I have used almost full strength round-up on it but apparently I didn't get it all because it keeps comming back. It is in my flower beds and in the yard. I have managed to keep it somewhat under control in my beds by hand digging it out but I sure don't want to continue doing that. Any ideas? Vikki

Vikki, it sounds like a weed we had in florida called Dollar weed. If it is that, I don't know ANYTHING that will kill it. We just pulled it out of where we didn't want it and put in a barricade of some sort to stop it from infiltrating the beds. good luck.

Thanks Jiffymouse...that's it "Dollar Weed" Wish I had a dollar for each one of these I have, lol. Weezie, here is a picture: http://www.emilycompost.com/dollar_weed.htm
Here is the bad news! Q: How do I kill dollar weeds?
A: My heart goes out to you dollarweed is a miserable weed. Yet at one time I wanted it as a ground cover.
Dollar weed grows because there is an over abundance of water. Reduce your watering. Most can be dug out manually. Although a chore, this is how one may tackle the underground runners. Most time dollarweed can be eliminated in the off months or early months of January and February with atrazine. However do check what zone you are in and what the timing maybe. If dollarweed is in your flowerbeds, dig carefully. You will eventually eliminate it.

Vikki The philosophy of more is better does not apply when using Round Up! Use regular concentrations and be persistant! If the concentration is too strong it will only kill the leafy part of plant and not move down into the root system.
My experience is with Burmuda grass which multiplies by numerous routes! Spray with normal concentration and then when you see more spray again..and again. Keep the sprayer loaded!!!!

2,4-D Amine is supposed to be an aquatic [/bWeedcide[/b] but can (?) be applied to your dollar weeds since they thrived on "wet soil". In another turfgrass forum, it was mentioned that application of this weedcide can kill the dollar weeds in about 3 days. (Better than round up or Image and costs less...about $11.00 for 2.5 gal.)
Be sure to check and follow the label's instructions for proper application and disposal.
If you have reservation about using chemicals, then you could starve the weeds by not watering and by covering them with heavy tarp. No water, no sunlight = no photosythesis = no weed growth (maybe???).

Thanks Papito!! I never knew of any way to kill it other than digging it out. Don't have it here (thank goodness) but there is lots of it where I grew up. (on a bayou!)
